The City of Las Vegas homeowner guide says replacing exterior or interior doors, hinges, hardware and related trim needs no permit if the new door is the same size and type, needs no change to wall framing, and the old door is not part of fire-resistive rated construction. The guide does not say whether this covers overhead garage doors, so ask Building and Safety at (702) 229-6251. (source: City of Las Vegas Building and Safety)

The same guide says a permit is required to cut in a new window or door opening, or widen an existing opening. (source: City of Las Vegas Building and Safety)

Unincorporated Clark County

Clark County requires a permit before anyone constructs, alters, repairs or replaces a building, or installs, alters, repairs or replaces any electrical, gas, mechanical or plumbing system regulated by code. Exemptions are in Clark County Building Administrative Code 22.02.190. (source: Clark County Department of Building and Fire Prevention)

The City of Las Vegas has a year-round amnesty program that lets homeowners self-disclose non-permitted or non-code-compliant work in their homes without any penalties for the required plan review and permit fees. Building and Safety: (702) 229-6251. (source: City of Las Vegas Building and Safety)

Henderson, North Las Vegas, Boulder City and Mesquite run their own building departments. Clark County says permits come from the building department in your jurisdiction, so check with your city before work starts. (source: Clark County Department of Building and Fire Prevention)
